The head of the team, who watched over Pope Francis in the celebrated Gemelli Polyclinic, prof. Sergio Alfieri revealed that the wellness condition of the head of the Catholic Church was very serious during hospitalization. “We were aware that Francis might not be able to make it.”
The prof. admitted that at the point of worsening the illness there was a hazard that Pope Francis might not last the infection. “That evening was terrible,” says the doctor quoted by PAP.
The Pope was to be aware that the coming night would be critical and may not live to see the morning. But he was to encourage a squad of doctors to effort everything and not give up.
Pope Francis left the infirmary on Sunday 23 March after more than 5 weeks of hospitalization.
