The credibility of Tusk's promises is at stake.
The palace recalled the promise of a free amount
The dispute began with criticism of the Presidential Palace against the taxation announcements of Donald Tusk's government. Paweł Headmaster, head of the Cabinet of the president of the Republic of Poland, pointed out that the government was complicating taxes alternatively of raising the free amount as promised by the electoral campaign. Miłosz Motyka replied in Polsat News that the Palace wants to make life hard for the government.
It's a convenient political response, but it skips the point. Poles did not vote for the slogan about the next construction of taxation thresholds. They heard the promise of a larger amount of free. If the government now sells the substitute as a large relief, it has a work to tell the citizens directly: what about the promise of PLN 60 1000 of free money?
New PIT, old credibility problem
Currently PIT scale on tax.gov.pl shows 2 basic thresholds: 12% to 120 1000 PLN base and 32 percent over 120 1000 PLN surplus. The government plan, described after the Wednesday conference of the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, assumes a shift of the threshold of 12% to PLN 130 thousand, the introduction of a rate of 24 percent for the scope of PLN 130-150 1000 and leaving 32 percent only above PLN 150 thousand.
According to the government, the change is expected to affect about 3.5 million taxpayers. This is simply a real group of people, especially middle-class workers, who are increasingly taxed by inflation and rising nominal wages. The problem is that the government first promised a wide movement for all workers, and now shows a point solution and is financed mostly by higher loads elsewhere.
CIT and tribute, that is, money does not come from the air
Tax announcements do not end with PIT. Media describing the government conference besides points to the plan to increase CIT to 22 percent for the largest companies, to a gross threshold of more than EUR 50 million, and to a change in the solidarity taxation for people with income of more than PLN 1 million per year. This is expected to be a political answer to the question where to get the money.
For the national economy, this consequence is besides short. Poland needs simpler taxes, unchangeable rules and rewards for work, investment and capital building here in Poland. Instead, he gets another layer of tables, thresholds and exceptions. The government can talk about justice. The entrepreneur and worker will see first of all whether the state changes the rules again during the game.

Motyka accused president Karol Nawrock of the logic of disturbing the government. That's a good conviction in a tv studio, but it doesn't solve a single payer problem. Sovereignty starts with your own salary
Taxes aren't just accounting techniques. They decide how much the citizen will hold from the fruit of his own work and how much freedom the household will stay after paying the bills. The national state is to support honest work, not train people in an increasingly complex strategy of reliefs, thresholds and subsidies.
If the government wants to convince Poles, let it show the full project, the cost to the budget, the effects for local governments and the origin of funding. It's not adequate to say that individual in the palace is interfering. After 2 years of governing, that's an excuse. Poles are curious in a simpler question: how much will stay in the wallet and whether the election promise was serious.
