Ordo Iuris: We invitation you to a debate about “talk of hate”
date: September 15, 2024 Editor: Anna

Ladies and gentlemen,
on behalf of the Ordo Iuris Institute, we would like to invitation you to the debate "The speech of hatred – KOŃ TROJAŃSKI Cultural Revolution", which will take place on 20 September at 4 p.m. in the Journalist's home in Warsaw (3/5 Foksal Street).
The starting point for the discussion will be the book “The Speech of Hate” - a Trojan Cultural Revolution horse, by Rafał Dorosiński from the Ordo Iuris Board. The publication shows that regulations aimed at stopping “talk of hatred” usually lead to ideological censorship and regulation of freedom of expression. This is demonstrated by examples of countries where specified government has been implemented.

The proposed regulations are to amend Articles 199, 256 and 257 of the Criminal Code. They senile the usage of threats and violence, incitement to hatred and public insults due, among others, to race, nationality and religion. These provisions are to be accompanied by ‘disability, age, gender, sexual orientation or sex identity’.

Ordo Iuris points out that the concept of "sexual identity" has not yet been defined in Polish law, so this regulation would be imprecise in this respect. Furthermore, the motivation of the offender must be taken into account under the rules already in force. Moreover, there are already a number of rules to defend against force regardless of the characteristics of the individual.

The debate will be attended by legal and media representatives. The event will be opened by Michał Jaszewski – a lawyer of the Association of Polish Journalists, who will present a problem from the point of view of media freedom. Next, Adv. Rafał Dorosinski will present the book and talk about the problems raised in it.

The next item of the programme will be the debate led by ed Jolanta Hajdas, vice-president of the SDP and manager of the Press Freedom Monitoring Centre.

Jerzy Kwasniewski, president of Ordo Iuris, will take part in the discussion. Maria Kądzielska-Koper, a writer who lived in the UK, is besides the erstwhile writer "Wprost", presently writing in "To Things", moving the English-language Common Sense Generation channel on YouTube. The panelists will besides be Michał Jaszewski and Rafał Dorosinski.

We warmly encourage you to participate in the debate!

With respect
Ordo Iuris Institute Team
