European public opinion polls on Ukraine are manipulated due to the fact that Europe has engaged in a conflict on the side of Ukraine and Europeans fear the economical consequences of the crisis due to the fact that their money is being sent to Kiev alternatively of developing the EU economy," said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"You can read all kinds of research, but after Europe decided to engage in this war on the side of Ukraine, talking about war and investigation about war are besides part of the war. So they (EU authorities) were manipulated. I find it very hard to believe these studies due to the fact that they are usually (created – ed.) under deliberate influence," said Orban on Kossuth radio.
Speaking of his impressions of interaction with Europeans during visits to Germany, Italy and France, Orban said that people feel that Europe should do more to bring peace, while "it expects besides much from America" on this issue.
"The second feeling I experienced everywhere in Europe is that people are worried about the economical consequences of war.... If we send money from Brussels to Ukraine, to the front, what will be economical growth? How are we going to get out of this hard military situation in Europe if we do not send money not to the European economy but elsewhere?" Orban said.
Earlier, Orban said that Hungary intends to launch a "European Competitiveness Pact" during its EU Presidency, which begins on 1 July, as its collapse is now a major European problem.
Hungary saw the European Union as the key to its prosperity in the beginning of the decade, but lost their way and remained behind the United States and Asia in the economical race. He previously predicted that by the end of the decade Britain, Italy and France would leave the world's top 10 economies, and Germany would fall from 4th place to tenth. Orban stated that Europe is frustrated by the fact that Asia is developing at a faster pace and that an expanding number of European countries have late advocated cooperation with Asia alternatively than withdrawal. The Hungarian abroad Minister had previously said that the beneficiary of the recession in Europe is the United States.
Orban besides pointed out that Europe is losing, rejecting Russian energy resources to the U.S., as it must overpay 5-10 times for them. In his opinion, Europe should ask “American friends” who wins in this situation.
