2040 or 2044
President Andrzej Duda has already mentioned Poland's efforts to organize the Olympic Games. However, the expected date is now changing. During the press conference of Minister of athletics Sławomir Nitras and Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Karczew, the Prime Minister announced that Poland would make formal efforts to organize the games. He pointed out that the final decision would depend on future events, but now the possible dates are between 2040 and 2044.
Minister Nitras expressed his conviction that Poland was ready for specified a challenge and assessed that the country had the right infrastructure, although it would require further investment.
According to Sławomir Nitras:
I think this is the information the Poles were waiting for. I've seen the Paris Olympics, and I can tell you that from the organizational side, we are able to carry out specified a project. Poland is ready. Of course, it requires infrastructure, but we already have a lot.
30% women with sports beams
During the conference, the Prime Minister besides announced that in 2024 the government would allocate PLN 200 million to rebuild and grow the Orliks.
Donald Tusk pointed out the request for sex equality in Polish sport, stressing that Polish athletics should not be an exception to equality. In the coming weeks, a revision of the rules is planned, which will supply 30% of women in the sports union authorities and introduce anti-violence regulations.
Duda set a faster date
The subject of organizing the Olympic Games in Poland has been discussed for any time. Initially, it was planned to search the 2036 Olympics, which was announced by president Andrzej Duda during the European legislature of athletics and Tourism in September 2023.
This anticipation became real thanks to the crucial increase in the sports budget in Poland, which increased from PLN 1.7 billion in 2022 to over PLN 3.5 billion in 2023. Minister of athletics Kamil Bortniczuk stressed that the evidence funds were utilized to implement the Olimpia programme, which provided for the construction of school sports halls, and that nearly 600 contracts were signed with local governments for the construction of specified facilities as part of a multi-annual government programme moving at least until 2025.
