A kid should never be the subject of a contract and should not, above all, be the subject of a transaction – emphasises Olivia Maurel, spokesperson for the Casablanca Declaration Association. Acting to ban surrogacy, Maurel will be 1 of the speakers of the conference on maternity. The event will be held on 3 June 2026 at the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski in Warsaw.
One of the guests of the conference "Maternity in the 21st century. The policy of support and protection against challenges and threats”, which will be held on June 3, 2026 at the UKSW in Warsaw, will be Olivia Maurel. The female who was born as a consequence of the surrogate will talk about the impact of foster motherhood on the life of the kid and his surroundings.
Olivia Maurel actively engages in activities leading to a ban on surrogacy, pointing to the child's welfare and rights. Her individual evidence is at the heart of her conflict to halt this – the drama of a kid who was conceived in vitro and born by a "substitute" mother. Olivia Maurel spoke about the many consequences of the surrogacy in her speech in the Czech Parliament in December 2023, among others.
– I am a “product” of surrogacy. Created, put up for sale and purchased... Even the date of my birth was decided – she confessed, pointing out the complete objectification of the kid who is called to life in this procedure.
Olivia Maurel noted that many people do not realize the serious effects of surrogacy on the child’s life and surroundings. The decision of 1 or 2 people who thus want to appoint a fresh man has an impact on the child, his household and society, she explained.
Olivia found out about being born as a consequence of the surrogate, as an adult woman. And this information allowed her to realize the origin of the problems, mostly psychosomatic ones she experienced as a child, later as a teenager and an adult woman. As she stressed, technological investigation clearly proves that everything that happens around the kid in the prenatal phase of its improvement affects its improvement and further life to a greater or lesser extent. Most importantly, technological investigation besides points to the remarkable bond between the parent and the developing kid in her body and the consequences of the violent break in that bond.
– As shortly as I was born, I was not given into the arms of my biological mother; a parent who carried me for 9 months, fed and spoke to me. I wasn't in the arms of my mother, the 1 whose emotions I felt all the time, the 1 who was the only individual I knew. From my mother’s womb, I found myself in a harsh environment full of infirmary cold lights. I was to be sold to complete the transaction. Unfortunately, it was the first trauma that marked the remainder of my life. She said.
As she mentioned, as a small girl, she suffered from abandonment syndrome, felt a fear of all breakup with her parents, and even a short separation made her hysterical. Doctors couldn't diagnose the background of these states. Olivia had many difficulties in establishing relationships and making friends. As she noted, she was inactive accompanied by a feeling of differentness. She seemed to have any kind of interior conflict all the time. She besides had no deeper relation with her mother.
– I've always had problems with my mother, I've never felt any connection with her, it's a small different with my dad. Deep down, I felt that I did not fit in. She told me.
At the age of a teenager, the situation became even more difficult, she told.
– (...) I got addicted, raped, lived on the edge all the time. I made any suicide attempts... my life wasn't the best. I've had a hard time dealing with people, keeping friends, and I've been afraid to leave. I was alone. I felt very, very lonely. I'm depressed. I couldn't get a good job. I was emotionally unstable. I had difficulty graduating - She did.
Her life began to change erstwhile she met her future husband – a man who supported her with large patience and love and helped her rebuild her life. Olivia, awaiting the birth of their 3 children, however, had anxiety conditions, fears that her children would inherit her wellness problems. It turned out that both her daughter and her boy took over certain traumas and experienced various difficulties, especially rejection and abandonment syndrome.
– Sbirth has had a negative effect not only on me, but besides on my children. However, they may receive peculiar assistance She emphasized.
Olivia Maurel, besides active in favour of the ban on alleged foster motherhood after learning her story. The female was able to find the biological mother, which allowed her to realize the psycho-physical states she was experiencing. It turned out that an American female had emotional problems erstwhile she agreed to become a surrogate for Olivia's parents, which aggravated the tragic death of 1 of her children, a 2.5-year-old boy. In addition, the female had financial obligations, which is why she applied to the maternity agency. As Olivia says, theoretically, agencies have a work to verify the wellness and condition of their mother, but women who apply there may hide the truth.
– I hope that shortly this cruelty of surrogacy will be banned. stressed. She added that she loved parents who raised her and did not condemn them. As she explained, they took advantage of the agency's offer, what was legally possible. Therefore, above all, the female blames the system, which is slow implementing foster motherhood and wants to spread it.
– First, you will be allowed to surrogate for medical reasons and fertility problems. Then you accept it for social reasons. It will later be allowed to surrogate for any another reason: trafficking in human beings, the availability of organs (...) – respect the members of the Czech Parliament.
– The foster motherhood must be abolished. I am not a doctor, but in my humble opinion, as a kid born as a consequence of surrogacy, the most crucial reason for abolishing this horror is the child's welfare, his intellectual balance, his rights She added.
In 1 of the interviews for cne.news Olivia shared a reflection with her biological mother.
– [The biological mother] was happy to talk to me and was truly surprised. She didn't think she'd always meet me. – remembers Olivia.
As she says, this conversation was primarily needed to get answers to questions that tormented her throughout her life.
– I needed answers from her to a number of questions. Answers to the voids that have accompanied me my full life. Information about how my birth was cunning, and why did she give me up? She confessed.
As she added, she besides wanted to talk to her biological mother, about tiny things, things that may not be crucial to many people who know their roots and identities, and for her they are crucial due to the fact that they specify her and fill the void known only to those who have failed to know their roots and ancestors.
They were seemingly insignificant things that were crucial to me and that I didn't share with my mother. She said. – It was my favourite color: purple She added. – NAnd erstwhile I didn't know why I loved that colour so much. And now I know, due to the fact that it's besides my mom's favourite color. – added Olivia.
According to experts, the intellectual consequences in children conceived as a consequence of surrogacy are known. Anne Schaub, a scientist and psychotherapist who has worked with children for nearly 3 decades, emphasizes the request for further analysis of the impact of surrogacy in children.
Dr. Schaub is the author of a book about the strength and kind of ties that form between a kid and a parent during pregnancy and shortly after his birth. They are crucial for human further development.
Fear of abandonment is simply a very common consequence of breaking these bonds. Another common consequence is the strenuous search for identity. The intellectual effects of specified separation after birth require further analysis – she wrote.
