"New-old" talker of the home of Representatives

Mike Johnson has been talker of the home of Representatives since October 2023. In the vote held on Friday 3 January, he obtained 218 votes, precisely what the absolute majority required was. Johnson's main rival, Hakeem Jeffries (Democratic Party), won 215 votes. The fresh majority leader in the legislature was in turn South Dakota Senator John Thune.
