The election for the mayor of Pruszcz Gdański municipality proved to be a real political thriller, ending with the triumph of Weronika Chmielowiec, an independent candidate who managed to outrun her rival by only 112 votes.
Michał Nowak, erstwhile Radunica chief and candidate associated with the Civic Platform, gained 49.42 percent of the vote in a hard electoral duel, losing by a hair to Chmiełowiec, who scored 50.58 percent.
112 votes decided to win the Chmielowiec
This is an highly fierce start, which has aroused the emotions of the inhabitants of the municipality from the very beginning. Weronika Chmielowiec, acting as an independent candidate, managed to convince herself of 4,864 voters, which represented a minimum advantage over Michał Nowak, who received 4,752 votes. A tiny difference in vote, only 112, indicates a large social division and diversity of expectations among residents.
The triumph of Chmiełowiec can be interpreted as an expression of residents' desire for change and fresh position in the management of the commune. As an independent candidate, Chmiełowiec was not burdened with organization commitments, which could attract voters seeking alternatives to conventional political options.
