There was a heated debate in Poland about the future of the Central Communication Port (CPK), which was to be established in Baranów. According to fresh reports, the government is likely to quit this investment, to grow the existing Chopin Airport and another regional airports, which has sparked a wave of criticism.

Warsaw “Gazeta Wyborcza” informs that the government plans to increase the capacity of Chopin Airport for PLN 2.4 billion to 30 million passengers per year, which is half of what the CPK was to offer. Additionally, part of air traffic is to be transferred to airports in Modlin, Radom and Łódź. These changes were presented during the 90th anniversary of Okęcie Airport, where the concept of the alleged "triport" was presented.

Political commentators and the opposition have no uncertainty that this is simply a strategy to abandon the CPK project. Luke Warzecha of the “To the Thing” suggests that specified a decision may negatively affect the current government in future polls. According to him, despite expectations that Donald Tusk's government would take concrete steps, the reality shows that the task is gradually abandoned.

The dream of building a CPK is over. Criticism from all sides

On the another hand, Cezary Kaźmierczak, president of the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers, points to business risks resulting from the abandonment of CPK to grow existing airports. It foresees that this decision will weaken Poland's position as a regional aviation hub, which could benefit competitive airports specified as Vienna.

Opposition politicians, including Jerzy Polaczek from the PiS, powerfully criticize the government's decision, calling it a "international scandal". They besides stress that the suspension of the CPK task is simply a waste of public funds and an increase in the burden for residents of Warsaw due to sound from Chopin Airport.

Dariusz Matecki of Sovereign Poland and Sławomir Mentzen of Confederation besides express their discontent, criticizing the government for the deficiency of ambitious infrastructure projects and suggesting that these decisions are dictated by political shortsightedness.

Instead of CPK, cosmetic extension of Okęcia. alternatively of an atom, German windmills 200 meters from the buildings. alternatively of the port of Świnoujście, a national park blocking work on Oder.

Dear young people, you wanted to fight the Law and Justice, and you wanted to join Poland with Donald.

The CPK won't, but the ruling ones are smiling. And Tusk will make a heart out of her hand. What more do we need?

— Sławomir Mentzen (@SlawomirMentzen) April 29, 2024

The confusion around the CPK and the decision to suspend it shows a deep political division in the country and differences in approach to the improvement of national infrastructure. This decision can have long-term effects not only on national policy but besides on Poland's position in the global transport arena.
