New US Army base in Poland?

The US's commitment to Poland's safety is not decreasing – on the contrary, it can be even more! I gave the U.S. Secretary of defence Pete Hegseth the authoritative proposal to make a fresh permanent U.S. military base in Poland – present Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz informed.

Several days ago president Donald Trump announced that The United States will send an additional 5,000 soldiers to Poland. The Ministry of National Defence then announced that the details of the plan would be determined in talks with the U.S. military commander in Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, commenting on the declaration of the American leader, stated that Poland "does not lose anything from what it had so far", but could gain in terms of the number of allies or the position of their presence in our country.

This afternoon, the head of the MON reported that he came up with an initiative to grow the American military presence in our country. "U.S. engagement in Poland's safety is not decreasing – on the contrary, it can be even bigger! I gave the U.S. Secretary of defence Pete Hegseth an authoritative proposal to make a fresh permanent U.S. military base in Poland," he wrote on the X portal.

American soldiers on Polish soil

Since respective soldiers in 2013, who created AvDet's first permanent subdivision (he was preparing the U.S. aviation rotation in Poland), the number of US troops in our country has increased to over 10,000 today. About 1,300 American soldiers are stationed permanently in Poland: in the advanced command 5th US Army Corps in Poznań And the garrison there, U.S. rocket shield base in Redzikow, storage and repair base of equipment in the View (Army Prepositioned Stock, APS). Americans are besides the main force a multi-national combat group stationed in Bemów Piski as part of the extended allied presence on the east flank (FLF). Moreover, since Russia's full-scale attack on Ukraine in February 2022, Poland has between 7 and 11,000 American soldiers, and their numbers vary according to operational and training tasks.

Poland builds bases

In accordance with the Intergovernmental Agreement on Enhanced Defence Cooperation (EDCA), signed in 2020, Poland invests in creating conditions for a permanent American military presence and ability to rapidly adopt US forces. The agreement provides for 115 projects located in 12 locations. 4 projects worth PLN 18.5 billion ($5.1 billion) were completed. There are 51 projects with a full value of PLN 1.3 billion ($350 million). The main investments are located in Poznań (complex of the 5th Corps), Powidzu (objects of the mobile air base of land troops), Świętszów (base of the Armoured Brigade Combat Group, ABCT), Wrocław-Strachowice (load and unloading base of the US Air Force).

For financing tasks with the EDCA contract, PLN 22 billion ($6 billion) was saved in the construction investment plan until 2039. In 11 locations, the Polish side provided, in most places free of charge, logistical support for U.S. troops, in Powidzu as part of support for maintaining the U.S. war reserve in Poland, the establishment of a Workshop and Magazine Centre was planned. A full of over a billion dollars have been spent in the implementation of the commitments of EDCA since 2021, or over PLN 3.5 billion.
