Dariusz Drelich, erstwhile Pomeranian voivode, took up the position of Deputy manager of the Administrative and economical Office at the Institute of National Memory – informed the radio station TOK FM. Its fresh function generates mixed reactions, especially in the context of its past related to activities in the times of the Polish People's Republic of Poland.

Drelich is simply a figure known in the political environment. As a Pomeranian governor, he held up his duties for many years, gaining experience in state administration. Recently, however, Drelich took on a fresh function as Deputy manager of the Administrative and economical Office at the Institute of National Memory. In this function, he will be liable for administrative and economical management, which is simply a key component in the smooth functioning of the institution.

However, his nomination has sparked controversy, which has its origin in events a fewer decades ago.

Drelich's past in PRON

The media in the context of his vocation recalled Drelich's past, which is closely related to activities in the Patriotic National Revival Movement (PRON). This organization, created during the martial law, was 1 of the tools of communist power in controlling society. Drelich was a delegate to the provincial ProN convention and a associate of the municipal council of that organization.

As “Gazeta Wyborcza” emphasized, the council, to which Drelich belonged, considered the introduction of martial law to be beneficial for Poland. This attitude is causing large controversy today, especially in the context of the victims of the martial law and the repression of society in those days.

Darius Drelich in fresh elections

Dariusz Drelich, moving in the 2023 parliamentary election as a PiS candidate for the Senate, lost his rivalry in territory No. 63 (Kashuba) with the Left candidate, Anna Górska. This consequence is considered as a surprise due to the fact that Górska gained more support than Drelich, despite his earlier position as the Pomeranian voivodes. Górska received about 42 percent of the votes, while Drelich received 34.2%, meaning that he failed to win a senatorial mandate.
