The Ministry of Ukraine called on the Belarusian Armed Forces to halt hostile activities and retreat their troops outside the border. The message states that among the forces deployed at the border are Belarusian peculiar units and erstwhile Wagner Group fighters.
There are besides tanks, artillery, air defence systems and engineering equipment in the border areas of the Homel region.

The Ukrainian authorities stressed that Ukraine has never taken or intends to take any hostile action against the Belarusian people. On August 18, Belarusian president Alaksandr Lukashenka stated that Ukraine had gathered over 120,000 soldiers at the border with Belarus and deployed almost 1 3rd of its armed forces across the border.
In consequence to these actions, Belarus informed on 21 August that it had sent its aviation, air defence and armored units to the border area with Ukraine.
