The tension is rising on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. Ukraine has called on Belarus to retreat crucial armed forces and equipment deployed at the common border," Reuters informs. The Ministry of abroad Affairs of Ukraine warned Belarus against making "tragic mistakes" under force from Moscow.
The Ministry of Ukraine called on the Belarusian Armed Forces to halt hostile activities and retreat their troops outside the border. The message states that among the forces deployed at the border are Belarusian peculiar units and erstwhile Wagner Group fighters.
There are besides tanks, artillery, air defence systems and engineering equipment in the border areas of the Homel region.

Position of Ukraine
The Ukrainian authorities stressed that Ukraine has never taken or intends to take any hostile action against the Belarusian people. On August 18, Belarusian president Alaksandr Lukashenka stated that Ukraine had gathered over 120,000 soldiers at the border with Belarus and deployed almost 1 3rd of its armed forces across the border.
In consequence to these actions, Belarus informed on 21 August that it had sent its aviation, air defence and armored units to the border area with Ukraine.
Border situation
Tensions on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border are increasing, which may lead to further escalation of the conflict. Both sides are mobilising their forces, which raises concerns about possible armed incidents. Ukraine and Belarus accuse each another of provocations, which complicates the anticipation of deescalating tensions in the region.
More on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border
The border between Ukraine and Belarus, about 1084 km, has become 1 of the most delicate points in east Europe in fresh years. In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the strengthening of Belarus' ties with Russia, the region is becoming increasingly strategically important.
The Ukrainian-Belarusian border was considered to be comparatively peaceful for many years, although for decades of the existence of the USSR it did not have much political significance. After the dissolution of the russian Union in 1991 and the independency of Ukraine and Belarus, this border became a dividing line between 2 separate states, each following its own way of political and economical development.
