The fresh king of Norway Haakon VIII took his oath to the Constitution on Tuesday before Parliament. The Monarch undertook to regulation the country in accordance with the constitution and the law. Like his father, grandpa and great-grandfather, he chose “Everything for Norway” as the motto of the reign.
The Parliament's formal sitting (Storting) began at 13 a.m. His president Masud Gharahkhani officially informed the deputies of the death of the erstwhile king, Harald V, and the change on the throne. Haakon VIII then took the oath required by the Constitution.
– I promise and curse to regulation the Kingdom of Norway according to its constitution and laws. So aid me God Almighty and All-Knowing," he declared.
The monarchs were accompanied by his daughter and heir to the throne, Princess Ingrid Alexandra. The ceremony was besides observed by Queen parent Sonja and Prince Sverre Magnus. Ingrid Alexandra, although a soldier, did not execute in uniform. She was wearing a black dress girded with the sash of the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Olaf – the highest Norwegian distinction.
