The study prepared by the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NRF) and maritime insurers, Skuld and Gard, alerted that the coasts of the Baltic, North Sea and Danish straits are facing an ecological disaster all day. The authors stressed that out of the 100 oldest oil tankers in the world, 96 belong to the "shadow float" and shipments bypassing global sanctions account for as much as 20% of global oil transport. As added, in 2021 only 5% of tankers had policies outside the IG global insurance system. Today, all 5th tanker has no widely recognised insurance.
