‘Safe 0 percent’ has worsened relations

As stated by Onet, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister sent a letter from the President's Chancellery regarding the countersignal of nominations to the board of NBP, including Marty Kightley to vice president of the central bank. According to the information provided by the President's Chancellery, the Prime Minister refused to sign all the applications submitted.

Adam Glapiński wanted to keep the mandate of the first vice president, considered his closest co-worker and key individual in moving the NBP, besides during his absence.

The service besides reminds that after the departure of Piotr Pogonowski, the NBP board presently has a minimum statutory number of six members. For this reason, the addition of vacancies is crucial for the President, especially before November, erstwhile the word of office of Vice president Adam Lipiński expires. The absence of a successor could origin the number of board members to fall below the required level.

According to Onetu, relations between the government and the president of the NBP were to improve at the beginning of the year, but the situation deteriorated the participation of the president of the central bank in the Karol Nawrocki conference, during which the concept of "SAFE 0 percent" was announced. In the opinion of the government, this could mean the engagement of the NBP chief in political action on the President's side.

"This is not revenge, this is the Prime Minister's evaluation"

Tomasz Siemoniak, speaking on the TVN24's one-on-one programme, said that the Prime Minister's decision should be a clear signal for the president to reflect. He stated that the Prime Minister's decision was not revenge, but an assessment of the situation that could give the president reason to think and show that confrontational actions could have consequences.

Siemoniak besides assessed that the president in his opinion in a "scandal" manner impedes the work of the Constitutional Court and that he should not lead "total obstruction" by blocking the activities of state institutions. He besides assessed that the President's actions lead to the creation of "two centres of power" in the country. In his opinion, the problem stems from attempts to extend the powers of the head of state beyond the scope provided for in the Constitution, which, as he stressed, clearly defines the division of powers.

The Minister besides stated that specified actions could origin a serious systemic crisis and announced that the president would bear their political consequences.
