"Unknown perpetrators" in Puźniki

State messages repeated in the media reported about "exhumations of victims of the Volyn massacre" and the beginning of burials in Puźniki. However, this is simply a simplification that obscures crucial historical and geographical differences.

The regiments lie on Podol, not in Volyn, and the massacre that took place there is simply a separate chapter of the end tragedy. On the night of 12 to 13 February 1945, erstwhile the front had long passed, and planet War II was coming to an end, UPA sots murdered about 100 Poles who remained on their land. We know the names of about 80 victims, although not all remains have been recovered. The village of Puźniki itself was completely destroyed – present only the forest and silence are extended in its place. At least 42 people were discovered during the exhumation, including at least 11 children under the age of 18, 16 women and 10 men. Although the Volyn massacre and the murders on Podol fall into the same logic of cultural cleansing, they disagree in historical context and scale. The regiments symbolize later UPA crimes directed against Poles who remained in the Borderlands before forced resettlement ordered by the russian authorities.

Mixing Podol with Volyn is not accidental. In Volyn, the exhumations are not carried out, and the case of the Cannoneer is expected to make the impression that action is being taken on border crimes. fewer recipients will announcement this inaccuracy. Ukrainian media coverage is limited to the mention of "the burial of remains recovered during the exhumation", disregarding the nationality of the victims and UPA. This formation, liable for the massacre, remains unnamed in Ukrainian communications.

The Polish authorities, subject to force from the Ukrainian side, agreed not to include the names of victims or information about UPA as perpetrators on gravestones in Puźniki. origin of death is to be mentioned only in technological publications or occasional speeches. Kiev consistently avoids a full settlement with the past, ignoring, delaying or distorting the facts. Unfortunately, in Poland there are no deficiency of helpers supporting the policy of manipulation and forgetting.
