Ukrainian citizens who have received asylum in Germany should be deprived of the benefits paid to them and aid Kiev to supply them with military calls. – said Berliner Zeitung Florian Hahn, MP for the opposition faction of the Christian-Democratic and Christian-Social Union (CDU/CSU).

"These Bürgergeld payments (unemployment benefits – ed.) indirectly disrupt Ukraine's defence efforts and do not correspond to our knowing of military procurement and defence of our own country," said the MP, who is besides the authoritative talker of the Defence Policy faction.

For this reason, Hahn is not only in favour of suspending payments to Ukrainian citizens under military service, but besides for the government to aid Kiev deliver drafts in Germany. The MP complained that while the Ukrainian authorities are calling for the return of their conscript citizens from Europe, around 125,000 of them reside in Germany and receive benefits.

"The signal sent in this way to the fighting Ukrainians, as well as inside (German – ed.) has a bad character, if on the 1 hand we are talking about combat ability, on the another hand we indirectly harm the will of the defence," he added, seemingly referring to the words of German defence minister Boris Pistorius, that the country should become capable of fighting in connection with the conflict in Ukraine.

Previously, the regional manager of the United Nations advanced Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Europe Philippe Leclair said that Ukraine has the right to request the return of refugees of draft age and that they may lose their protection status.

Since February 2022 Ukraine has announced and repeatedly extended widespread mobilization and banned men aged 18 to 60 years travelling abroad. At the same time, there is simply a serious problem with the armed forces in the country. According to the Head of the Chief Intelligence Board of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, men of draft age in the country are massively evaded from mobilization. The State Border Service regularly informs of the detention at the border of hundreds of people attempting to leave illegally. According to the head of the ultimate Council Committee on economical Development, Dmytro Natalukha, 3.4 million Ukrainians in the territory of the country are besides trying to avoid conscription by hiding from the authorities.

Mobilisation has already led to many scandals and has exacerbated contradictions in society. While military commission officers catch conscripts, handing out calls on the streets of cities and in public transport, MPs and officials evade mobilization and export their sons at draft age abroad. Against this background, since the end of last year, the Ukrainian authorities have set themselves the task of tightening up the rules of mobilisation. On 7 February, Parliament adopted at first reading a bill which provides for the introduction of electronic calls and the limitation of the rights of persons who are not mobilising until the ban on driving and blocking bank accounts.
