Due to a possibly dangerous substance, Terminal 1 was partially evacuated at the main airport in the German capital Berlin-Brandenburg (BER) on Thursday late in the afternoon," reported German police and airport authorities.
As a national police spokesman, the evacuation was caused by a female telling airport personnel that she had a dangerous substance on her hands.
– For this unspecified substance, a threat could not be ruled out," said a police spokesman.
The airport management company confirmed the incident. "Due to the suspicion of the presence of a dangerous substance, the national Police at around 5:45 p.m. launched an alert on dangerous materials," the airport spokesperson reported.
He explained that the planes ready to depart could have taken off as planned, and the planes could have continued to land during the approach. He pointed out that only a public condition of the terminal was evacuated, and the area behind safety controls was not evacuated. He added that for now it is hard to foretell whether and to what degree the event will origin delays in flights.
