Sergei Andreyev became an ambassador to Poland in 2014. He previously served as advisors to the Russian embassy in Portugal and ambassador to Angola and Norway. In September he will finish his mission in Poland and return to Russia.
Farewell to Andreev in the Apostolic Nunciature
On Tuesday, August 19, on the site of the Apostolic Nunciature, a celebration of the farewell of a Russian appeared. It stressed that Andreyev was goodbyeed as "His Excellency" – an honorary title to the highest-ranking officials. The message was accompanied by a photograph on which the nuncio smiling hands Andreev a commemorative plate.
"On 18 August this year, at the seat of the Apostolic Nunciature in Warsaw, a commemorative plate from the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps of His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazi, the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, received His Excellency Mr Sergey Andreev, Ambassador of Russia to Poland, who ends his diplomatic mission in Poland" - reads the release.
In the face of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the many crimes committed by the Russian troops and the fact that Poland is 1 of Kiev's key allies, the decision to say farewell to the ambassador raises controversy and misunderstanding.
Sergei Andreev leaves Poland
As we wrote on Temat.pl, Andreyev's activity in Poland was controversial. A diplomat, openly supporting Kremlin's narrative, repeatedly justified the Russian invasion of Ukraine, calling it according to Russian propaganda "a peculiar military operation".
He was besides called upon by the Polish MFA in connection with the statements of Russian politicians and the actions of the Kremlin aimed at Poland. Russian news agency TASS stated that according to Vladimir Putin's decision, Russia's fresh ambassador to Poland after the cancellation of Sergei Andreyev will become Gieorgi Michno.
