Bashkan (leader) of the Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia Evghenii Gutul, associated with the escaped and convicted politician Ilan Sore, will stay under home arrest for another 30 days. This decision was made on 12 May by a court in Chisinau.
Evghenia Gutul is charged with a criminal case which has been pending before a Moldovan court since April 2024. According to the prosecutor's office, between 2019 and 2020, as the party's secretary ‘Șor’ she systematically imported cash from Russia to Moldova, which was utilized to finance the political activities of the party. The Moldovan anti-corruption prosecutor besides accuses her of coordinating the work of any of the offices of the group.
Advocate Gutul defined the decision as ‘unlawful’ and ‘unwarranted’, claiming that these measures were intended to block the activities of the sashken.
In early April, the court changed Gutul's preventive measurement by placing her under home arrest.
