In the latest poll conducted by the "New York Times" and Siena College, Donald Trump gained only a one-point advantage over president Joe Biden. Both politicians intend to search re-election in the November presidential election.

In February Donald Trump led a five-point difference over Biden (48 percent to 43 percent). Current results indicate an increase in support for Biden among conventional Democratic organization voters – from 83% to 89%. Meanwhile, the support for Trump among Republicans fell somewhat from 97% to 94%.

In the context of the age of candidates, 69 percent of those surveyed consider that 81-year-old Biden is besides old to take office again, while only 41% consider 78-year-old Trump besides old. In a group of voters over 65, Biden's perception of being besides old declined significantly.

The publication of the poll coincided with the selection of a jury in Trump's criminal trial, accused among others of falsifying commercial documents. However, only 25% of respondents declare that they are following this judicial procedure closely.

Support in a demographic context

The survey besides showed that support for Biden grew among black and Latin voters, but is inactive below the levels traditionally expected for Democratic candidate. The economy remains a problem for the President, especially in the perception of young voters, of which 85 percent measure it negatively.

With respect to economical governance, Trump gained 64 percent approval for his actions as President, while Biden faced 63 percent disapproval. Similarly, Trump's immigration policy has received more support than Biden's action in this area.

Foreign policy and impact on democracy

In the context of abroad policy, only 36% of respondents support Biden's actions, especially in conflicts in Ukraine and Israel. Young voters under 45 expressed strong disapproval of his global decisions.

Although Biden made Trump's democracies after the riots of January 6, 2021 a key point in his campaign, equal to the number of respondents (31%) considers both politicians to be "good for democracy". 45% of respondents considered Trump to be "harmful to democracy" while this percent was somewhat lower in Biden's case.
