After the vacation break, the Zygmunt Hübner Theatre in Warsaw begins the fresh period 2023-2024, accompanied by the slogan “Practics of Hope”. We will look for them in action for a better, more community society. Therefore, this period we will focus peculiarly on stories frequently pushed beyond the mainstream of public debate.
On 7 September, “Melodrama“ In a Dir. Anna Smolar, a performance inspired by the fresh “The Loop” by Marek Hłaski and the movie by Wojciech Jerzy Has of the same title. ‘Melodramat’ tells about co-dependence mechanisms not only in romantic, but besides in professional and household relationships. He was credited as 1 of the most crucial performances of the erstwhile season. In the following weeks, well-known and valued titles specified as: Political fiction "Radio Maria" in dir. First of all, what bites Gilbert Grape
The first release of the fresh season, already on 21 September, will be "What bites Gilbert Grape" directed by Karolina Kowalczyk and with dramaturgy by Natalia Królak. The show based on Peter Hedges' fresh is simply a communicative of the family, its interior conflicts and hard love, which show any general social tensions, stereotypes and levels of exclusion. The show is created as part of the task “Change – Now!” implemented by the Alexander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw.
A week later, his latest performance “Mothers. SONG FOR WAR time” will be presented by Marta Górnicka together with a squad of 21 women from Ukraine, Belarus and Poland. The maker of the show is the Foundation CHÓR KOBIET, which started this task thanks to the support of Warsaw and many partners from Poland and abroad. “Mothers” is simply a choral spectacle giving a voice to a true, feminine experience; it comes from the tradition of Szczedwika – Ukrainian, before a Christian fresh Year song performed in the form of individual wishes for better times. After the premiere at the Universal Theatre, which is 1 of the co-producers, an global tour was planned, including shows in Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria and the Avignon Theatre Festival.
Something for younger viewers
October 20th awaits us premiere of the show for the younger audience – it will be the “King of Animals” directed by Karolina Porcari based on “Italian Fairy Tales” by Ital Calvin. The show is created in cooperation with the Italian Institute of Culture, and immediately after the Warsaw premiere, in November, will take part in the Kraków festival small Divine Comedy. The “King of Animals” is the communicative of the brave Stellina and her animal friends, who, in the face of serious danger, must take part in the fight of good against evil, in which magical powers are happily permitted.
In mid-November we will present the “Imperium” of the FreeWord Foundation. Shows work in progress They were held in a stream off this year's Shakespeare Festival. “Imperium” is simply a communicative inspired by “Macbeth” Shakespeare and the experiences of migrants and people helping on the Polish-Belarusian border.
Political farce
The last premiere in 2023 will be the political farce of the Italian playwright and Nobel laureate Dario Fo – "The Accidental Death of Anarchist" (18 November) directed by Michał Zadar. The communicative of the collision of the alleged average citizen with the device of the state and the tools of oppression of the services, is becoming more and more fresh at the present time and brings lively reflection.
Premieres 2024
In the fresh year, in spring, Jakub Skrzyzanek, manager of “Mein Kampf” and “Immoral Tales”, will return to the Universal Theatre. His next performance under the working title “The Paper Man“ will be co-production with the Review of the Actor Song in Wrocław. The premiere was already in late March 2024. At the end of the season, work at the Universal Theatre will besides be started by Katarzyna Szyningier, who will direct the performance on the basis of Mirosław Wlekły's reporter investigation.
During the period of unrest and concerns about the war over our east border, the economic, climate, migration and political clashes, it is crucial to build an alternate Community story. This is why we realize the “practice of hope” programme – alongside concrete actions and attitudes – as creating new, multi-threaded and Community stories about our reality. These stories will be the subject of all the Prime Minister and the actions we will take this season. We hope to find in them the strength, inspiration and tools to build a better reality.
