Warsaw is shocked by the series of brutal killings of older women that took place in February of that year. The perpetrators, 43-year-old Pole and his Ukrainian partner, made robberies whose value was amazingly low. As it turns out, 1 of the victims' lives was valued at little than PLN 2,000. What happened at the seniors' flats gives emergence to horror and disbelief.
A gruesome series of robberies
The first killing took place on 16 February in an flat on Franciscan Street in Warsaw. The victim was an 80-year-old woman. A fewer days later, on February 23rd and 25th, more victims were found. Initially, the police did not connect these cases due to the fact that the locations of events were distant from each other, and the methods of action of the perpetrators seemed different.
– At first, we didn't connect these cases. The places where these acts were committed were very remote, it was respective different districts. any operational arrangements said the perpetrators' model was different. Only further findings, further actions led us to detentions – explains Mr Robert Szumiata from the Police Headquarters.
The perpetrators utilized the trust of the victims
According to investigators, both suspects – Poles and Ukrainians – dealt with insignificant plumbing repairs. That's why they had access to older women's apartments.
– All the victims knew the suspects due to the fact that they were doing insignificant repairs on those who were deprived of life by the suspects. Both have a specialization in hydraulics. 1 of them runs a registered company in Poland, the another is based on ad hoc work – says Piotr Antoni Skiba from the territory Attorney's Office in Warsaw.
A neighbour of 1 of the victims mentions that an aged female was very careful and never opened the door to strangers. But the perpetrators had a clever plan – they dressed up as waterworks workers.
– The exchange of water meters was. I don't know a man, any outside company. This lasted from 26 September to December – neighbors report.
‘Laughly low’ amounts of robberies
Although the killings were made against a robbery background, the amounts that the perpetrators had earned were amazingly low.
– I do not want to go into the details of the investigation, but in fact these amounts were ridiculously low. It wasn't much money, it wasn't objects that represented any large value. I've served twenty-five years with the police. I have never encountered this kind of meaningless murder, a meaningless crime for specified a low motive, says Szumiata.
A neighbour of 1 of the victims says that the aged woman's flat was in a dire state.
– I wasn't in the victim's apartment. I heard there was a large dumpster. She lived without a TV, without gas, without nothing, the level was all over the place. It is amazing that they decided to rob and kill – he reports.
Life worth little than PLN 2,000
According to the unofficial findings of the “Intervention” programme, the lives of 1 of the victims were estimated by the perpetrators at little than PLN 2,000. That's what they stole from her apartment.
– That's what they stole from her apartment. After arresting the perpetrators, it turned out that 1 of them – 43-year-old Poles – had been wanted for a long time by a BOLO, we read in the account.
Will the perpetrators be more?
The police don't regulation out any script, but so far they don't anticipate to keep any more people.
– We do not exclude any script, but I dare say that more people detained in this case will not be – concludes Robert Szumiata.
This gruesome series of murders reminds us of the importance of being careful, especially by the elderly. The perpetrators took advantage of the trust of their victims, and their methods of action are frightening.
