In more than 3 years of full-scale war, the Metinvest group, a globally active group of steel and mining companies from Ukraine, has allocated 9.28 billion hryvnia (near PLN 840 million) to support Ukraine and its citizens. Of this amount, 4.9 billion hryvnia (more than PLN 440 million) were allocated to the armed forces as part of Rinata Achmetów's "Steel Front" defence initiative.
Production and investment despite the war
Despite the continuous threat of shelling from Russia, companies belonging to the Metinvest Group in Zaporozh, the Krzywy Horn and Kamieński proceed to operate with different capacity utilisation rates, taking into account safety, energy, logistics and economical factors. Despite the failure of operational control over assets in Mariupolu and Awdijiwka and the suspension of mine operations in Pokrowsk, Metinvest remains the largest steel exporter from Ukraine. Last year the Group launched 20 fresh product types.

That is why we are inactive acting, adapting to the challenges of the present time: we supply jobs to Ukrainians, pay taxes, support defence forces and aid civilians affected by the war. Since the beginning of the invasion, Metinvest has allocated 9.28 billion hryvnia to support the state and its citizens. In addition, Metinvest continues to upgrade its bets. This year, Kamet Steel implements a evidence program worth more than 2.5 billion hryvnia (more than 225 million PLN), including a thorough review of the large furnace no. 9. The Group besides invests in energy independency – according to Delo.ua, it ranks first in this area in Ukraine. A full of 2.2 billion hryvnia (198 million PLN) was invested in the construction and planning of power worth 178 MW. Metinvest remains the biggest payer in the Ukrainian mining and metallic sectors: in 2024 the group paid 19.8 billion hryvnia (nearly PLN 1.8 billion) taxes, which accounts for 61 percent of the full revenues of the sector. In the first 4th of 2025 the budget received another 4.4 billion hryvnia (396 million PLN).
Support for the armed forces
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Metinvest has allocated 4.9 billion hryvians (more than PLN 440 million) to support the Ukrainian army as part of Rinat Achmetov's initiative "The Steel Front", which is 1 of the largest contributions of Ukrainian business to the fight against the enemy. Already in 2022, the group launched steel production for the front. 1 of the first products was peculiar steel plates designed to manufacture bulletproof vests. In total, Metinvest produced or imported 150 000 specified vests and 25,000 helmets from abroad, any of which went to the Group's personnel serving in the defence forces and another military personnel.
Metinvest produced 758 mobile shelters – specially designed steel structures, which service both as protection and field shelter. Based on these projects, the Group created command posts and built the first underground infirmary in Ukraine. This year, 2 additional facilities are planned to be built in key combat zones. The group besides produced and provided 300 steel protective screens for armoured vehicles including Abrams, Bradley, Patriot, T-64, T-72 and MT-LB. These universal barriers supply protection against FPV drones and saved the lives of many defenders.
Metinvest besides helps to mine the territory of Ukraine. The group designed and produced 30 mine trawls, which were sent to the front line. At the request of Operation Command “South” Metinvest supplies steel for buggy production: 225 mobile vehicles have already been delivered to the front line. The Group's steel is besides utilized to manufacture Lancet drone catchers, anti-tank spikes, mini-bastions and another structures for defence forces.
Under the Steel Front initiative Metinvest supports the army with reconnaissance, observation, communication and power supplies. The military received over 8.2 1000 reconnaissance drones, 2,000 thermal cameras, 2,000 precision optical devices, 450 emergency power systems, 875 communication devices, 676 vehicles (including ambulances) and 1,53 million litres of fuel. The group besides provided 31.5 1000 first aid kits and tourniquets and invested more than 25 million hryvians (more than PLN 225 thousand) in the improvement of tactical medicine in cooperation with the PULSE charity.
Veterans Program
One of Metinvest's key priorities is to support veterans. According to the global advisory agency Korn Ferry, the Group is the largest private veteran employer in Ukraine. Over the last decade, over 10.5 1000 Metinvest employees have served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Currently, 8,000 people are active (including joint venture workers) and 1,000 have returned to work. To support them in their professional adaptation, Metinvest implements a comprehensive ecosystem of veteran reintegration.
The group offers employment opportunities for both its demobilised workers and wide-ranging labour marketplace veterans. Metinvest provides free retraining, upgrading of qualifications and preferential access to the mining and steel university, i.e. Metinvest University of Technology. Veterans can besides benefit from physical rehabilitation and intellectual care at the Group's expense, and staff are trained to support demobilized colleagues. In 2025 Metinvest plans to allocate a full of $550,000. Veterans' reintegration programs.
Investment in workers and reconstruction of the country
Despite the losses suffered during the war, Metinvest remains the largest mining and metallurgical company in Ukraine. Its companies presently have about 4,000 vacancies in engineering and method positions. The group offers free retraining and professional improvement for employees. It besides supports young specialists through the First Work programme, which provides 50,000 hryvnia (PLN 4.5 thousand) financial assistance in the first year of employment.
Metinvest prioritises the safety and well-being of its employees and their families. The group supported evacuation and first reassimilation of workers from Mariupola, Awdijiwka and Pokrowska, and besides continues to assist people working in front regions in rebuilding houses destroyed by shelling. In the joint venture Zaporizhstal 170 employees received a full of 3.8 million hryvnia (342 1000 PLN).
In 2020 Metinvest formed Metinvest University of Technology, the first private mining and metallurgical college in Ukraine. The main nonsubjective of the project, which remains unchanged despite the full invasion, is to supply Ukraine with higher method education that meets European standards. The university accepted the first group of students in 2022, in 2024 granted diplomas to the first 143 graduates of master's degree, and in 2025 received further 124 graduates of master's degree. Since its inception, more than 1080 people have been enrolled in the university, including Mariupola defenders and veterans employed in Metinvest companies.
The group continues to invest in the improvement of its regions and in improving the quality of life of the community. In 2025 it will allocate 70 million hryvnia (PLN 6.3 billion) to support social infrastructure in Kamieński, including the reconstruction of 4 wellness care facilities and the acquisition of 5 fresh trams.
In an effort to become a pillar of post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, Metinvest provides steel for strategical infrastructure projects. Up to 500 tons of steel products will be utilized to build the fresh main water main, which will supply drinking water to the inhabitants of Mikołajów. The Group's specialists besides proceed to work on Steel Dream, a concept of rebuilding housing and social infrastructure throughout Ukraine.
