President Elekt Karol Nawrocki gave the first abroad interview after the election. He spoke to the Hungarian weekly "Mandinner". He assured that he wanted to strengthen V4 and the Bucharest Nine. In his opinion, this is crucial for strengthening the east flank of NATO.
Intelligence. What will Nawrocki do about Ukraine?
Nawrocki mainly praised Hungary, emphasized the proximity of both countries. He besides spoke on Ukraine. In his opinion, Poland should and will support this country, but the elect does not want to rush to include Ukraine in the EU.
"Kiyów must first take care of relations with neighbouring countries, especially economical and historical, like the issue of Volyn genocide," he said in an interview.
He besides claimed that he wanted to strengthen the Visegrad Group (V4) and the Bucharest Nine. This first group is an informal association of 4 countries: Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Its importance is presently insignificant. Suffice to say that Poland and the Czech Republic are not on their way with Fica and Orban, who are looking with hope towards Putin. Nawrocki's win may outweigh the balance on the side of closer cooperation. But that's what the government will decide, not the president.
Bucharest 9 (B-9) is simply a format that brings together 9 countries of Central and east Europe: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. It was created by Presidents of Poland and Romania – Andrzej Duda and Klaus Iohannis. It acts primarily to guarantee a strong, credible, sustainable NATO military presence in the region.
Nawrocki besides said Russia is the most crucial enemy in the east.
