Pilecki Prize: peculiar category restored

The Pilecki Institute restored the peculiar award category in this year's edition of the Witold Pilecki global Prize. The decision was taken at a short gathering on 17 July involving key prize-related persons. The anonymous donor secured the essential backing for the implementation of this category. The deadline for submitting applications was extended until the end of August.

On Friday, the Pilecki Institute informed about the restoration of the peculiar Prize category as part of this year's competition. The decision was made during a gathering held on July 17.

The gathering was attended by the manager of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum Dr. Piotr Cywiński, the great-grandson of Witold Pilecki, Krzysztof Kosior and the manager of the Pilecki Institute Prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz. The gathering afraid the award of the peculiar Award as part of the competition.

Anonymous donor supports award

The key component of the decision was securing funding. According to the Institute, the donor, who wants to stay anonymous, secured the essential external resources for this purpose.

Due to the restoration of the award category, the peculiar deadline for submitting applications to it was extended until the end of August. This gives additional time to possible candidates to prepare the application.

Confirming the cooperation of key individuals

During the meeting, Piotr Cywiński and Krzysztof Kosior confirmed their readiness to participate actively in the work of the jury. The patronage of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum on the Prize will be maintained.

The Institute announced that the updated competition rules and the composition of the global chapter would be announced soon. This information will be crucial for those curious in participating in the competition.

Award distinguishes the authors of crucial publications

The Witold Pilecki global Prize was established in 2021 by the Pilecki Institute. He distinguishes the authors of books devoted to Polish experience of totalitarianism of the 20th century and contemporary armed conflicts and human rights violations.

The award is awarded in 3 categories: a technological historical book, a historical reportage and a peculiar award. Winners in the first 2 categories will receive 46 1000 850 PLN gross and a statuette in this edition.

In each category there is besides a discrimination with a prize of PLN 5 1000 gross. It is an additional credit for valuable works that have not won the main prize.
