Trump's abrupt move. He changes his head about Russia just before he meets Putin

American media reports that on Wednesday the United States temporarily suspended any of the sanctions imposed on Russia. This decision relates to the planned Friday gathering of US president Donald Trump with Vladimir Putin in Alaska.


Donald Trump reported last week that he would meet Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. "A long-awaited gathering between me as president of the United States of America and Russian president Vladimir Putin will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, in the large State of Alaska. More details soon. Thank you for your attention!" – he wrote on the fact Social platform.

Trump temporarily suspends sanctions on Russia


According to NBC, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a temporary licence abolishing the narrow scope of sanctions to let Russia to carry out the essential financial transactions related to Putin's visit to Alaska.

It is only about the actions essential to organise the summit. The licence does not include unlocking any frozen property under sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine or another transactions not straight related to the meeting.

This limited suspension applies until 20 August. Trump stressed on Wednesday that there is simply a "big chance" that talks with Putin could shortly besides lead to a gathering of the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine. At the same time, he warned that if Putin did not agree to end the war in Ukraine, "Russia will endure very serious consequences".

Trump's gathering with Putin in Alaska


As we wrote on Temat.pl, on Wednesday Trump held a video conference with European leaders, including Volodymyr Zelenski. The president of Ukraine reported that they had established "five common rules" for negotiations before Friday's meeting, as quoted by CNN station:

All cases concerning Ukraine must be dealt with exclusively with Ukraine,

A tripartite format should be drawn up,

There must be a ceasefire,

"There must be safety guarantees – truly reliable,"


Russia cannot have a veto on Ukraine's membership of the EU and NATO.


Mr Zelenski stressed that peace talks had to be combined with force on Moscow, including the tightening of sanctions in the event of a ceasefire. He besides expressed hope that the ceasefire would be a "central topic" of Friday's conversation between Putin and Trump.
