In 2014, Ukrainians went out on the street to object to the failure of the authorities to search accession to the European Union. This event, which started Ukraine's turn towards the West, was called "Euromaidan" or "Majdan of Independence". Yesterday another “Carton Majdan” began in Kiev. About 1,000 residents of the capital of Ukraine went out on the streets, demanding the restoration of powers for anti-corruption authorities. Demonstrations were besides held in another cities.

"We hope that our deputies will realize that civilian society is active in our country despite the war. We are observing what they are doing, and we will not let our nation be taken from us by the constitution of power. We are standing here and we will be here until they yet hear us," said 1 of the demonstrators, Alina, in a conversation with the media.

On Wednesday evening a crowd of about 1,000 people with cardboard posters appeared on the streets of Kiev, with slogans calling for the restoration of their existing powers to anti-corruption services. Protests, which were besides organised in another cities – including Odessa, Zaporozh, Kharkiv and Lviv – were so called "Carton Majdan".

Today – on Thursday, July 31 – the ultimate Council of Ukraine (the parliament there) intends to consider an urgent presidential draft bill according to which NABU (National Anti-corruption Office of Ukraine) and SAP (Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office) will regain its independence.

A small over a week ago – on Tuesday, July 22 – the Ukrainian authorities deprived the autonomy of NABU and SAP, subjecting the anti-corruption services to the lawyer General, who is supervised by president Volodymyr Zelenski.

Prior to the deprivation of independency of anti-corruption services, the authorities of the European Union protested to the authorities in Kiev. The head of KE Ursula von der Leyen called for the restoration of autonomy. Although the ultimate Council is on a simple way to restoring the existing position quo by 22 July, the distaste among any political options in Ukraine remained.

"I think that the Zelenski Act, which is to fix the situation, will be passed. But, and I want to emphasize this very strongly, it's happening in violation of the law. due to the fact that next day the presidential project, contrary to the rules, is to be considered first, although the first should be considered a erstwhile parliamentary draft on this matter“” said the opposition MP against the European Solidarity organization of Zelensk, Volodymyr Windowowicz, who was present at yesterday’s demonstration.
