If the Brussels politicians do not look to the eye, we will lose our competition with Ukrainian agricultural products – says Mirosław Maliszewski, MP of PSL and president of the Association of Saditioners of Poland.

On Wednesday on Radio RMF24, Mirosław Maliszewski, representing PSL and acting president of the Union of Saditioners of Poland, commented on the situation in agriculture in the context of agricultural protests and the problem of excessive imports from Ukraine. The politician believes that "the basic demands of farmers are justified".

"If there is no sobriety among Brussels politicians, we will lose our rivalry with Ukrainian agricultural products," warned the PSL MP. erstwhile asked about Polish-Ukrainian talks on agriculture Maliszewski noted that Ukrainians want to let their products on the European Union marketplace at all costs.

"They want to be in the European Union with agricultural products, but they do not want to meet the standards that apply to farmers in the EU," he explained.

"The farmers rightly say that we cannot bear the full burden of financial assistance to Ukraine and pay for it with the future of our farms. The solution to this problem is not just in the Ministry of Agriculture, it is at least a level or 2 higher – at the level of the Prime Minister or the European Commission", said the head of the Association of Sadgers of Poland.

He was besides asked whether a "final option" is being considered during negotiations with Ukraine. According to her, the full ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products to Poland would be introduced. At the same time, he acknowledged that this would be a challenge for many sectors that sale more of their products to Ukraine than buy from their producers.

"Therefore, it would be better to apply the option that we introduce restrictions on those products which straight endanger us, specified as grain production, sugar, soft fruit eggs or apple juice," he pointed out. He besides added that the introduction of a "nuclear option" would concern the introduction of a ban on trade with the Ukrainian side, including non-agricultural products.

"We are afraid that if the atomic option is utilized on our side, specified option will besides happen on the part of Ukraine. This will origin paralysis in trade. This would be bad for us," said Mirosław Maliszewski.
