The United States will, as part of the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, require Moscow to agree to recognise Ukraine's right to have a decently armed and equipped army. Russia besides cannot number on depriving Kiev of its own defence industry.
For now, it is not known how large the army will be able to own Ukraine. However, according to various sources, this is expected to be the abundance that Kiev and its European allies insist on.
This will mean that Russian president Vladimir Putin will not implement 1 of his demands, which is the alleged demilitarisation of Ukraine. This issue was raised during the negotiations in Istanbul in the spring of 2022. Moscow then demanded that the Ukrainian army be reduced to 85,000 soldiers, 342 tanks. The Russians besides wanted to limit the scope of Ukrainian rockets to 40 km. Kiev insisted on 250,000 troops, 800 tanks and 280 km rockets respectively.
After NATO de facto denied Kiev membership of the organization, the Ukrainian side declared that it was forced to own 1.5 million troops.
