Russian president Vladimir Putin refused to accept the proposal to “freeze” the front line in Ukraine and demanded Kiev to renounce the full territory of 4 of its circuits – Donetsk, Lugansk, Khersonsk and Zaporosk. After more than 3 years of war, the Russians did not occupy any of them entirely.

The effort to convince Putin to “freeze” the conflict was made during his last visit to Russia by Steve Witkoff, peculiar envoy of U.S. president Donald Trump. However, he failed to accomplish this objective.

The Americans hoped to conclude a truce between Russia and Ukraine by the end of April this year. Despite crucial concessions to Putin, the Kremlin did not compromise.

A long-term truce is impossible without taking into account the “minorities” that Putin had previously spoken about, his spokesperson Dmitri Pieskov late stated. Kiev's proposal to close the truce for 30 days was described as "manipulation".

As part of his diplomatic game with Washington, the Russian president announced on Monday 28 April this year a ceasefire on 8-10 May. This is related to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the triumph in the large Patriotic War. any planet leaders are expected to arrive in Moscow, including the Secretary-General of the Communist organization of China Xi Jinping, Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico, and Serbia's president Alexandar Vučić.
