The composition of the Russian delegation to participate in negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul on 2 June this year will be the same as in erstwhile talks on 16 May this year. Vladimir Miedinski, the advisor to president Vladimir Putin, will take the lead again.
His candidacy caused discontent among representatives of Western countries. Bloomberg previously reported that the US president Donald Trump administration had insisted on replacing Miedinski with another person. The Americans respect him as a supporter of the "hard approach" in negotiations. He is besides the author of a school textbook that justifies Russian aggression towards Ukraine. Miedinski is besides known for the explanation of the Russian people having a "additional chromosome".
The erstwhile circular of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine was held on 16 May in Istanbul. The Parties have not reached any crucial agreements. The Russians demanded, among others, that Kiev resign to Moscow from 4 of its circuits, partially occupied by Russian troops.
So far Ukraine has not confirmed its delegation's participation at the Istanbul meeting.
