The Central Anti-corruption Bureau (CBA) has detained 5 people who have a connection to a serious scandal involving falsification of graduation diplomas at the Collegium Humanum. Not only academic teachers are detained, but besides private university rectors. The investigation points to a wide scope of counterfeiting and property benefits. The hearings heard a full of 30 charges. Among them is the accusation of falsifying the university rector's diploma.
Initial CBA detentions
On 12 May 2025, the Central Anti-corruption Office, commissioned by the Silesian Department of the National Prosecutor's Office, carried out an operation to detain persons active in falsifying diplomas. The CBA detained 5 people, including rectors from 2 private universities: the Pedagogy of the School of Social Sciences in Warsaw and the College of Management in Legnica. Apart from them, the owner of a private advanced school from Grodziska Mazowiecki and 2 academic teachers are involved.
The detainees heard allegations concerning the forgery of papers confirming the completion of their studies, including the diploma of Paul C. himself, Rector of Collegium Humanum. A full of 30 charges were filed by the prosecutors, which include not only forgery, but besides the taking of property benefits from those who paid for falsified diplomas.
Processor of falsified diplomas
One of the main charges against detainees is the forgery of higher education diplomas by over 1,000 students from Ukraine. This applies primarily to graduates of the College of Management in Legnica, who received illegal diplomas without having completed appropriate studies. The findings of the investigation indicate that any of the persons who have thus been "alumni" had no real relation with the university.
The detainees were accused of participating in a practice that allowed people from outside Poland, especially from Ukraine, to get academic degrees without having to do actual studies. This could have serious consequences for the reputation of private universities whose employees participated in it.
Arrest for suspects
The National Prosecutor's Office has already applied for detention for 3 of the 5 detainees, including the Rector of Collegium Humanum. The court issued a decision to apply a three-month detention period to the university director. The decision of the court indicates the seriousness of the case and the anticipation of the detainees hiding evidence.
The investigation conducted by the CBA and the National Public Prosecutor's Office aims to explain precisely the scale of the fraud of diplomas and to punish all persons active in this scandal. Investigators are announcing further detentions, as the case concerns not only detainees in fresh days but besides many others that may be linked to this illegal activity.
The issue of falsifying diplomas at Collegium Humanum has a number of serious consequences. First of all, it can affect the image of private universities in Poland. Those liable for this must face severe penalties, both in criminal and civilian terms.
A further investigation may besides uncover how wide the scope of this illegal activity was and how large the financial benefits of this activity were. There was speculation that this could be part of a larger network of forgeries of diplomas, which could include another universities in Poland.
