Moments of unrest among the residents. Earthquake in this part of Poland

This week Poland was hit by an earthquake. It occurred in Central-South Poland and amazed residents who felt the shaking of windows, walls and floors.


The shock occurred on Monday 16 June at 15:47 in the Łódź Voivodeship. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the shock force was 2.9 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in the vicinity of Bliska Wola, respective kilometres from Piotrków Trybunalski.

Since the earthquake was 1 kilometer below the surface, the shock was strong adequate to origin the windows and walls to tremble, drop lighter objects, and sway chandeliers. Fortunately, the magnitude of the earthquake was not adequate to origin more serious damage.

Earthquake in Poland is not that strange


These shocks in Poland are caused by a geological formation cutting Poland in half, called the Tornquista-Teisseyre region (TTZ). It is simply a crack in the ground that separates the older part of the rocks in the east of Europe from the younger rocks in the west.

In Poland this region extends from the north-west to the south-east – from the Baltic coast, via Kujawy and Mazovia, to Lublin and the border with Ukraine. It is simply a deep rift, reaching respective twelve kilometers underground. It has a width of respective to respective twelve kilometres.

The last earthquake in Poland took place on the night of 20 to 21 March At 3:51 p.m., the land trembled in Wielkopolska, and the epicenter was located in the vicinity of Sierszew, located between Jarocin and Pleshev.
