February 8 on Twitter user @spiritist wrotethat “Polish Ministry of Culture categorically refused to assist in drafting the plan and securing Ukraine’s cultural heritage”. Additionally, the Polish government was expected to block the transit of Ukrainian cultural goods through the territory of our country. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage powerfully denied this information.

Dementi Ministry of Culture

Our editorial squad contacted Anna Pawłowska-Pojawa, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. She powerfully denied these reports. As we read in the authoritative dementi in this case:

Since the very beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Prof. Piotr Gliński has remained in current contact with the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Mr.Ołeksandr Tkachenka, and representatives of the Ministry cooperate straight with their Ukrainian counterparts. The last ministerial gathering was held 20 January.

Polish-Ukrainian cooperation

On his own page MKiDN publishes detailed information on cooperation with its Ukrainian counterpart. This is done by a peculiar ministerial squad on Ukrainian cultural assistance with the participation of the National Heritage Institute, which organizes and coordinates the assistance of Polish museums and cultural institutions for Ukraine and war refugees.

Works of Ukrainian Culture in Poland

The Ministry besides denied that Poland was blocking the transport of works of art from Ukraine, recalling the exhibitions in Poland, on which Ukrainian paintings are presented. It is, among another things, an exhibition “I'm going into the planet and I'm going on” at the National Museum in Poznań, on which the visitors were made available paintings of Jacek Malczewski from the Lviv National Art Gallery. In total, 34 paintings can be seen in the museum, which were evacuated to Poland at the end of last year. The exhibition will last until the end of March 2023.

Summary

Poland cooperates closely with Ukraine on protecting Ukrainian national heritage against Russian aggression. Ministers of cultural ministries of both countries are in close contact. Legal transport of works of art from Ukraine is possible, as evidenced by presently available exhibitions in Polish cultural institutions.
