Metinvest allocated nearly PLN 800 million to support Ukraine in 3 years of war

In 3 years of full-scale war, the Metinvest Group allocated a full of 8 billion hryvnia (nearly PLN 800 million) to aid Ukraine and its citizens. Of this amount, 4.4 billion hryvnia, i.e. nearly PLN 420 million, went to the needs of the defence forces as part of the Steel Front Rinata Achmetów military initiative.

Operational activities and investments

Ukrainian Metinvest plants operate under continuous fire hazard conditions. The Group's assets in Mariupol and Awdijiwka suffered as a consequence of war, and the cities are under occupation. Metinvest has late besides halted the operation of the mines in Pokrowsk due to the deteriorating situation on the front line, electricity shortages and safety risks. The Group's facilities in Krzywy Rog, Zaporoż and Kamieński proceed to operate with different capacity utilisation levels, taking into account energy resources and logistical and economical factors.

In 2025, the Group plans to allocate nearly 5.7 billion hryvnia (more than PLN 540 million) for the improvement of mining and processing plants in Krzywy Horn and 2.5 billion hryvnia (nearly PLN 240 million) for investments in production in Kamet Steel. These are evidence inputs in fresh years – a crucial part of them will be utilized to keep the efficiency of key equipment and technological processes to guarantee the stableness of production.

Since the first day of a full-scale invasion, and 3 years later, we are inactive fighting for Ukraine. Despite the difficulties associated with the war, Metinvest not only survived, but besides retained the position of export leader, the pillar of the country's economy and 1 of the largest donors of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. All this is possible thanks to the engagement of all Metinvest worker – both in Ukraine and abroad. Payment of taxes is an crucial contribution of the Group to maintaining the Ukrainian economy and the front regions. In 2024 Metinvest – including its affiliates and joint ventures – contributed 19.8 billion hryvnia (more than PLN 1.8 billion) to the Ukrainian budget, representing 61% of all metallurgical companies in the country. This makes the Group the biggest taxation payer in the mining and steel sector.

For defence

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Metinvest has supported Ukrainian defence forces as part of the Steel Front Rinata Achmetov initiative, having allocated 4.4 billion hryvians (418 million PLN) for military needs.

The group launched steel production for the army, strengthening the country's defence capabilities. An crucial solution is mobile shelters, which defend against fire and service as field quarters for soldiers – so far 679 specified structures have been delivered. On their basis, command stations are besides produced, as well as the first underground infirmary in Ukraine, which already saved the lives of over 1,000 soldiers.

Metinvest besides produces steel protective screens for T-64, T-72, U.S. M1 Abrams tanks, Bradley's combat infantry cars, and prepares for integration with various Leopard 2 versions. Metinvest offers veterans 4,000 jobs in engineering and technology competitions. They can benefit from free training, training and studies at Metinvest Polytechnik. There is besides rehabilitation and intellectual assistance financed by the Group. In order to tackle human resources shortages, partially due to mobilization, Metinvest offers workers the anticipation of retraining and acquiring additional skills free of charge, as well as supporting the professional adaptation of women, who presently account for almost 30% of the labour force in Ukrainian companies.

As before the war, the precedence of Metinvest remains life, wellness and well-being of workers and their families. The group supports families of miners evacuated from the mine in Pokrowsk, providing them with financial assistance (e.g. relocation allowance and housing subsidies), free accommodation in dormitories and support for children (placement in kindergartens and schools). As part of the "Saving Lives" humanitarian project, the Group has already supported about 516 000 civilians, delivering 4,2 000 tons of food and essential articles. Hospitals received medicines and equipment worth 9.5 million hryvnia (nearly PLN 1 million). Metinvest besides plans to actively participate in the reconstruction of postwar Ukraine. 1 of the key projects is "Steel Dream", a concept of rebuilding housing and social infrastructure.
