Merkawas under fire. Cahalu armoured weapons on “black Saturday”

In connection with the events of the alleged 'black Saturday' or 'black Sabbath', the Hamas attack of 7 October 2023, questions arose about the function of Merkawa tanks on the first day of the conflict. It was possible to get the impression that Merkawas did not play a bigger function then, were inefficient and easy destroyed. Meanwhile, the expanding amounts of material are showing the other – Merkawa, even acting in conditions of full surprise, chaos and alone, were highly dangerous and caused large losses to Hamas fighters, acting as a circumstantial fire brigade, which was directed to critical places. 1 of the armored army officers, commander of the 77th Battalion tank company, said of the “black Saturday” and the function of Merkawa as follows: “Where the tank stood, we prevented the slaughterhouse.”
