In the “News of the Day” broadcast on Radio Maryja, Dr. Artur Dąbrowski, president of the Catholic Archdiocese of Częstochowa and the catechet, powerfully criticized the decision of the Ministry of National Education to introduce fresh rules on teaching religion in schools.

According to Dr. Dąbrowski, the fresh regulation of the Minister of Education aims at eliminating religion from the curriculum and replacing it with a subject addressing, among others, the issues of tablets "day after".

The Commission for the Education of Catholic KEP expressed its opposition to changes in the organization of spiritual teaching. Dr Dąbrowski stressed that the Commission's consequence should have taken place much earlier, as the simplification in spiritual lessons straight affects the employment of teachers of this subject.

"Most of them are secular. (...) Consider the key fact that these people have families."

Dr. Dąbrowski besides criticised the current management of the Ministry of Education, pointing out the deficiency of pedagogical experience of Minister Barbara Nowacka. According to him, the decisions of the ministry are disconnected from the reality of the functioning of educational institutions and are based on ideology aimed at changing the way Poles think.

"Religion is eliminate, but the subject in which it will be taught, among another things, about ‘day after’ pills, about sex selection. This is very crucial for them, i.e. changing the mentality of reasoning of Poles, re-minding and “banning” (...) the lessons of religion and the competences of people who are prepared for it.”

According to the president of the Catholic Action of the Archdiocese of Częstochowa, the activities of the MEN are interference in the competences of the Polish Episcopal Conference and spiritual associations. “This is simply a scandal!” said Dr. Dąbrowski, adding that the Minister of Education put the ministry in an open dispute with the Catholic Church.

In Dr. Dąbrowski's opinion, the current education policy resembles the times of the Polish People's Republic erstwhile religion was eliminated from schools.

"Your minister is very clear on the 1961 line, erstwhile religion definitively disappeared from schools, and the fight against the teaching of religion was part of the policy of the Polish People's Republic that was aimed against the Catholic Church in Poland. And what does the Tusk government do today? He is besides liable for this, for he has designated this female [Barbara Nowacka – ed.] to specified an office. His politicians spoke about the request to "saw Catholics" – he emphasized the catechet, stressing that parents are primarily liable for raising children.

Dr. Dąbrowski warned that ideology would never be constructive and could lead to the demolition of the educational system, depriving children of access to fact and religion.

A collection of signatures has begun.

We encourage you to support the “Yes” action for religion at school. It expresses opposition to the education ministry's plans to teach this subject.

The editor-in-chief of 'Niedziela', Fr Jarosław Grabowski, pointed out that the plans of the ministry violate the rights of the student and violate the pedagogical and teaching principles. They argue the simplification in the number of spiritual hours per week and the anticipation of merging students from different classes and educational levels in these classes. They besides disagree with the decision not to include the evaluation on this subject in the average rating.

Organizers number on broad social support from Christian communities and parents who want schools to proceed to play their educational function in line with Christian values.
