You don't should be a soldier to be part of the Ministry of Defense's plans. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish announced the creation of the Legion Drone – a formation bringing together civilian unmanned operators. In the event of a conflict, they would supply facilities for the Polish Army. The thought becomes meaningful erstwhile you look at the number of possible candidates. According to the Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak in Poland there are already over 560 1000 certified drone operators. MON wants to usage the competences which many Poles gained outside the army. Civilians are to be ready in case of conflictKosiniak-Kamysz presented plans during the Blue Eye-26 exercise in Nowy Glink close Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The Legion drone will not be made up of soldiers. The hotel counts, among others, on certified operators, civilian defence members, volunteer firefighters and unmanned enthusiasts. The formation is to be based on the model of the already functioning Cyberlegion and Medlegion.– We request hundreds of thousands of drone operators," said the head of the MON. As he pointed out, the experience of the war in Ukraine shows how crucial the unmanned gained in the modern battlefield. The minister besides announced a far-reaching change in the military itself. Each squad of the Polish Army is to be equipped with drones, and each unit is to have the ability to usage them. This is not a completely fresh concept. Kosiniak-Kamish spoke of creating the Legion Drone as early as May 2025. He then announced a group of experienced operators who do not want to service in the military, but are ready to support the army and train others. But now the task is entering a more concrete phase. The head of the MON reported that the task of creating the Legion Drone was given to the commander of the Unmanned Army General Mirosław Bartoszek. The Minister besides addressed the possible participants directly: ‘Submit soon’. For the time being, the ministry has not provided detailed rules for recruitment. Therefore, it is not yet known erstwhile precisely the applications will be launched and what requirements will should be met. The military wants to train further MON operators at the same time intends to increase the pool of people with the right skills. In 2027, drone training is expected to take place in about 33,000 students from 500 wards of uniform schools. The course is to end with an exam conducted by the civilian Aviation Authority. The 25th Air Cavalry Brigade in Nowy Glinnik is to be the central place for training and certification of operators. The Blue Eye exercises are to be organised periodically. The scale of the investment shows how fast the Army's priorities are changing. According to the data presented by Kosiniak-Kamish in 2023, about 100 million PLN was spent on drone and drone systems. In 2026, the amount allocated to investments in these capacities is expected to be PLN 26 billion. Dron Legion is expected to add another component to this: thousands of civilians who have gained their skills outside the barracks, but could usage them in an emergency to defend the state. Read also:
