The dramatic situation of the Polish village has been further aggravated by the influx of Ukrainian grain due to the ongoing economical crisis and the deficiency of protection from abroad competition, which has led to a drastic decrease in the price of this product. Due to the situation, farmers from all over Poland, headed by the Lublin Association of “The Defrauded Village” and the agricultural branch of NSZZ “Solidarity” began protests throughout the country.

The most extremist form of protest took place on 2 February in the towns of Lubycza Królny and Okopa in Lublin Voivodeship, as well as in Dorohusk and Hrebenn where farmers associated with the “The Defrauded Village” undertook a 24-hour blockade of the border crossing without allowing trucks to cross the border, excluding those carrying humanitarian aid to Ukraine. In another regions of Poland, Świętokrzyskie and in many districts of the Zachodniopomorskie voivodship, protesters began blocking the main communication arteries and access to grain elevations.

Following the start of last February's war on 1 June 2022, EU tariff restrictions on grain trade with Ukraine were removed. In theory, this procedure was intended to let the country attacked to keep a steady supply of capital and to counter the famine spread in Africa, due to the fact that it was this continent that was to be the main recipient of Ukrainian products. However, the government-EU announcements have passed. Most Ukrainian grain flooded European markets. This resulted in a immense drop in abroad natural material prices, unlike home ones.

According to the participants of the protests, the price of a tonne of Ukrainian grain ranges from PLN 700 to PLN 800. Its Polish counterpart was in November about 1,600 PLN. This leads to a situation where Polish farmers are incapable to compete with the influx of cheaper products, and the imagination of bankruptcy becomes completely real. Protesters besides point out that they defend the interests of the full Polish society, stressing the fact that Ukrainian cereals frequently do not meet Polish quality standards. Thus, the main demands of the protest are to increase protection against unfair competition. 1 of the solutions proposed by farmers is to launch a transshipment terminal in Świnoujście, which would improve the flow of goods to further parts of the world, thus relieving the home market.

Further protest actions are announced by the Western Pomeranian NSZZ RI "Solidarity". According to the announcement, roadblocks are expected to last until March 3 and cover the full country. The organizers point out that their protest is completely apolitical, and its sole aim is to draw attention and solve the problem of grain prices.

The support of the attacked Ukraine to be able to waste as long as possible the resources of the hostile Russian Federation is in the Polish national interest, but peculiar steps must be taken not to reflect at the expense of our society. The passing on the territory of the Republic of the unlimited wave of Ukrainian grain in no way interferes with our marketplace and harms our severely strained agriculture, thus not allowing it to undergo the essential regeneration. If the rulers are truly guided by the interests of their people erstwhile making decisions, they should take crucial steps to change the hard situation of the Polish farmer.
