On 10 February 2018, before the 94th Smolensk monthly celebrations in Warsaw, he was fatally stabbed by 37-year-old Paweł Kulczak.
The fight for life lasted until February 21, but was unsuccessful in saving him. A man left his wife, orphaned 3 children.

Smolenian killers don't sleep, insatiable,
Ready to stab with a sneak knife,
They'd like to kill the fact about sky death,
What took the best and wounded Eagle
white wings on the mark of the cross laid
saying goodbye to the president and the Katyn shadows,
followed by them steadfastly and faithfully,
without knowing they'd be cornered from the ground
And the sky...
And in the blast of the explosion, blinded by a flash,
They fell into the dawn of eternity a cradle...
But we remember and we won't forget,
That's why we're here, and we'll give you a statue.
