Alaksandr Lukashenka on 24 August 2026 wished Ukraine a want for the 35th anniversary of independence, speaking about peace, happiness and future cooperation between Minsk and Kiev. The point is politically bitter: Belarus has supported Russian aggression since 2022, so specified words sound like diplomacy without an account of conscience.
Wishes from Minsk on the day of Ukrainian holiday
Alaksandr Lukashenka addressed his wishes to the Ukrainian people on 24 August 2026 on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Ukrainian independency Day. As she stated Belarusian BELTA agency, the message was sent by the press service of the Belarusian leader. Lukashenka spoke about the historical ties of Belarusians and Ukrainians, Minsk's future cooperation with Kiev, and wished Ukraine peace and happiness.
If those words were to come from the leader of a neutral state, they would be a simple Christmas diplomacy. The problem is that Minsk is not on the sidelines. The Lukashenko government has been linked to Russian strategy since the beginning of the full-scale war, and its territory has been an component of military force on Ukraine.
The problem is not words, but credibility.
Bankier.pl, citing PAP, recalled that Belarus has supported Russia since the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It was from the Belarusian territory that Russian troops began part of the offensive in February 2022. The European Union besides attaches sanctions to the function of Minsk: EU Council points to Military support of Belarus for Russia's war against Ukraine.
Therefore today's wishes sound like an effort to cover political work with the language of household ties and the erstwhile community. Lukashenko talks about trust, respect and equality, but Minsk's real policy has been moving towards the Kremlin for years. The Belarusian dictatorship wants to appear to be a mediator, although it itself has become the base of Russian pressure.
Poland must look sober
For Poland this message is not a curiosity from the diplomatic calendar. Belarus lies at our border, led hybrid force to the West, bonds of oppositionists and strikes Poles in the East. The National diary has already written that Belarusian opposition demands settlement of Lukashenko. This is the right context for all motion from Minsk.
The Polish right hand should see the case without illusion. Ukraine has its own interests, and Warsaw has the full right to put the issues of Volyn, agriculture, benefits and costs of war to the Polish taxpayer. But Ukraine's independency from Russia is simply a safety component for Poland. As Kiev weakens, Russian force moves closer to our borders.
Independence of Ukraine and the interest of Poland
Ukraine on August 24 celebrates independence, which since 2022 defends in conditions of full-scale war. Against this background, there is inactive a dispute over who is actually helping to keep its defence capabilities, including Ukrainian Heaven Defense. Poland must conduct a policy based on the power account, not on sentiments.
The bill is simple. Russia is simply a revisionist state, Belarus Lukashenko is her client, and Ukraine remains a strategical buffer between imperial force and Central Europe. This does not mean agreeing to all decision of Kiev. It means a work to defender the Polish interest in a planet where borders, armies and alliances again mean more than beautiful formulas.
Words Without Conscience Account
Lukashenko can want peace and happiness. However, the policy does not clear declarations, but acts. Minsk chose dependence on Moscow, interior repression and the function of the backdrop for an aggressive empire. These are facts that the Christmas announcement won't wash away.
For Poles, the stake is practical: border security, stableness of the region and the right to an independent east policy. We must aid where this strengthens Polish security, and refuse where another people's bills are transferred to our wallet. To Lukashenko, we request coldness, memory and hard realism.
