Alaksandr Lukashenka congratulated the Latvians on their independency feast. But the words of the Belarusian leader were closer to threats than to a friendly gesture.
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenka congratulated the nation Latvia for the Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia.
“Dear friends, on behalf of all Belarusians, I send cordial congratulations to our brothers from neighboring Latvia on the day of the Declaration of the Independent State. Since time immemorial, the nations of both countries have been surviving in the heart of Europe, maintaining their uniqueness and originality," quoted Lukashenko's message Government BelTA Agency.
“Today Belarus besides remains a peace-loving state, a supporter of dialog and common safety in the region. We have never initiated an armed conflict and have always treated our neighbors kindly and respectfully. Many of you could verify this by visiting our country in the visa-free movement," added Belarusian leader.
But that was not the end of Lukashenko’s propaganda speech. Putin's ally decided to attack Latvian politicians he accused of seeking conflict.
“When they ignited the situation, they brought forces and weapons to the Baltic countries, built walls, pushed your country into economical disaster. I am certain that our long-standing ties are a reliable foundation on which, despite all the difficulties, the mutually beneficial friendly relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Latvia are beneficial. Neither the artificial barbed wire barrier nor the criminal conflict of the temporary Latvian leaders with state symbols, past and ancestral monuments will separate us," said Lukashenko.
His telegram ended with further threats. He wished the Latvians a “peaceful sky”, which now, for example, in Russia's bombing Ukraine has a very circumstantial dimension.
