NATO does not believe that upcoming Russian-Belarusian military exercises The collapse is simply a threat, said Deividas Matulionis, Chief Advisor to the president of Lithuania for National Security. "NATO intelligence has so far no indication that the collapse will be a large-scale exercise that could pose a danger."
The Zapad exercises, scheduled for September, will be held in regions bordering the Baltic States and Poland. Prior to the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, exercises simulated the war with NATO and active tens of thousands of soldiers.
According to Matulionis, the data indicates that the exercise will have a limited range. During the maneuvers, NATO allies will besides show their will to “ensure the deterrence and defence of our territory”.
"That is why there is no request for drama, the situation is monitored" - he stressed. Matulionis, erstwhile Lithuanian ambassador to NATO, took on the function of Chief National safety Advisor to president Gitanas Nausėda on Monday.
