According to Asta Skaisgiritė, abroad Policy Advisor to the president of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, there is very small real action between Russia and Ukraine erstwhile it comes to peace negotiations.
“[Talks] are at the point of pseudo-negotiation, if I may say so. There are many conversations, many reports, but very fewer real actions. What we have seen so far is simply a gathering in Istanbul, the consequence of which is simply a very modest exchange of prisoners," Skaisgiritė said.
On Wednesday, Russia proposed to hold a fresh circular of talks with Ukraine in Istanbul this week and present its peace agreement plan. Kiev replied that he had to see the proposal in advance if the gathering was to bring results. The first direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in 3 years were held in Istanbul on 16 May. During the meeting, Moscow and Kiev agreed to exchange 1,000 Ukrainians for 1,000 Russian prisoners.
"The prisoner exchanges took place before the Istanbul meeting, and not once. possibly this time the number of prisoners is higher than before, but this is, if I may say, a common practice. Nothing concrete was achieved in Istanbul,” Skaisgiritė argued.
