Radom Port is undoubtedly the most critical airport in Poland. The losses resulting from its operation are counted at tens of millions of zlotys. The position of the port does not improve its forced closure after the F-16 fighter crash, in which Major Maciej "Slab" Krakowian was killed.
Radom airport closed longer than planned after F-16 disaster
The F-16 fighter crashed on the runway of Radom Airport on Thursday 28 August. After the fire was extinguished, prosecutors and military officers stepped in. Investigators secured further pieces of the wreckage that were scattered over a long distance.
It was already known on Thursday that the airport would shortly not resume its work. The first information he provided to the port indicated that aircraft would take off from there on Sunday 31 August. But that did not happen. The work of experts has extended and passengers must face further difficulties.
The latest information provided by the airport Warszawa-Radom shows that resuming flights will be possible at the earliest at night from 1 to 2 September, i.e. Monday to Tuesday. "Warsaw-Radom Airport remains closed until Tuesday (2 September) until 1:59 am. Detailed information about the circumstantial flights will be obtained straight from the carriers implementing them" - was given in an updated communication.
Radom airport is closed. Wizz Air and LOT reroute connections
On Friday 29 August, due to the closure of the LOT airport, he had to redirect 3 connections. On Sunday from Radom, Wizz Air's plane to Cyprus Larnaca was to take off, which was evidently impossible.
Both carriers have already reported that in the event of longer closure flights will be transferred to another airports. In the case of LOT to Warsaw and in the case of Wizz Air to Katowice, Lublin or Warsaw.
"Wizz Air is profoundly upset about the tragic accident that occurred at Radom airport on Thursday. Our thoughts are with the pilot's family, his loved ones and colleagues, and we send them our sincere condolences. As for our operations, our nearest flight from Radom is scheduled on August 31. We are waiting for confirmation from the airport authorities regarding the reopening of the airport. If it stays closed, Wizz Air will redirect flights to alternate airports, e.g. Katowice, Lublin or Warsaw" - informed the carrier in a message sent at the end of the week by Fly4free.pl.
