Soviet Space probe 482, launched more than 50 years ago, will shortly fall to Earth. According to the latest data, the Lublin Voivodeship may be peculiarly vulnerable. Should we be afraid?

Space 482 was sent into space by the russian Union in 1972. Her goal was to survey Venus, but the failure made her never scope her destination. Instead, for decades, it has circled around Earth to finally, as expected, fall to our planet.

Why is Space 482 dangerous?

Unlike typical satellites, this probe was designed to last the utmost conditions of Venus – advanced temperatures, toxic atmosphere and immense pressure. This means that it is likely will not burn completely in the Earth's atmosphere.

The object weighs about half a ton and hits the surface at tremendous speedWhich could origin local damage.

Where and erstwhile will the probe fall?

Polish Space Agency (POLSA) monitors the situation and states that Space 482 can fly over Poland twice:

  • First flight: 10 May, 06:40 – 06:42 CEST (past from Jelenia Góra to Biała Podlaska).
  • Second flight: May 10th, 08:11 – 08:13 CEST (pass from Zielona Góra to Lublin).

The central point of deorbitation is expected to 8:07 p.m. Polish timeWhen the probe is above central Poland – close Piotrków Trybunalski and Radom.

Where do we track the live probe?

The current flight way can be observed HERE(link for tracking).
