Lithuania withdraws from the Convention on the prohibition of cluster ammunition

The Lithuanian Sejm made specified a decision last July. Lithuania submitted the essential papers to the UN at the beginning of the autumn, and the six-month deadline for the entry into force of the decision to denunciation of the convention expired on 6 March," recalled the BNS agency. According to the Lithuanian side, this step is motivated by the fact that Russia is widely utilizing it during the war in Ukraine. The Convention on the Prohibition of the usage of Cluster Ammunition was adopted in 2008 and entered into force 2 years later. Its parties are presently 111 countries of the world. Among them there are no Poland, the United States, Russia and Ukraine.
