An open letter from the democratic opposition activists of the times of the Polish People's Republic

As democratic opposition activists from the times of the Polish People's Republic and erstwhile political prisoners of the communist regime, we powerfully protest the hatred of the president of Law and Justice.

Many times said that people who think differently than supporters of this organization represent German interests, that parties that include governments represent German groups, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk is simply a German agent, are incredibly mean.

We are outraged to see Jarosław Kaczyński proceed to preach anti-German obsessions preached by communist criminals specified as Bieruta, Gomulka or Moczar.

Jarosław Kaczyński does not realise that Poland's membership of the European Union and NATO is the biggest success of our Homeland after regaining independency in 1989. Especially in the face of threats coming from the east today, the Russian attack on Ukraine and what is happening in the mediate East, continued verbal aggression towards Germany, a country belonging to the European Union and our ally in NATO is foolish and irresponsible.

Calling names and taking the right to be Polish citizens is shameful. Unlike Jarosław Kaczyński, we passed the patriotism exam not in private, but in detentions, internment camps and prisons.

We remember and respect the aid of the German people and the authorities of Germany, which gave Poland during the years of the martial law, including valuable support for the anti-communist opposition, especially the underground “Solidarity”. Germany's support for Poland's accession to NATO and the European Union will besides stay in grateful memory.

We call on yesterday's authorities of the Sejm and the legislature and the forming government of the civilian Coalition, the 3rd Way and the fresh Left to keep the electoral promises and settlement of the Law and Justice of all crimes. The president of Law and Justice is 1 of them.
