Gizela Jagielska, whose name is associated with abortion besides in advanced pregnancies, is to take over the management of the gynecology and pathology department at the A. Falkiewicz infirmary in Wroclaw Brochow.
The contract was to be signed almost overnight. The doctor was expected to start work on October 1. Previously, she was associated with the Regional infirmary squad in Oleśnica, a facility that became known throughout the country for abortion, including those performed in the 36th week of pregnancy.
One of these cases has late shaken the full of Poland. The prosecution dismissed the proceedings, considering that the threat to the mother's life was real and the doctor acted within the limits of the applicable law.
However, that does not find anything about the most crucial issue. The law can be blind to what remains apparent to conscience. The dispute is not over paragraphs. The question is whether killing a kid who may have been breathing on their own outside of the mother's body in 36 weeks or 37 weeks of pregnancy is even allowed to be called “medical care”.
What the Church Says
Teaching the Church in this substance has been clear and unchanging for centuries. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says plainly: human life must be respected and protected in an absolute way from conception. Direct abortion is simply a serious moral evil. St. John Paul II in the encyclical Evangelium vitae recalled that the deliberate killing of an innocent human individual is contrary to the command "Do not kill."
A kid in the womb is simply a person, not a “treatment” or “medical material”. Therefore, the fact that a doctor known for abortion in late pregnancy gets a liable position in the ward where women give birth to children raises deep opposition to conscience.
At the same time, the church distinguishes the direct killing of a kid from situations where treatment of a parent in a tragic case can lead to the failure of a kid as a side effect. This limit is crucial and must not be obscured.
Arguments of the infirmary directorate
The infirmary director, Magdalena Puziewicz-Karpiak, defends the choice, pointing to the "absolutely unique competence" of doctors in perinatology, gynecology and neonatal science. He adds that in the infirmary “a lot of children will be born” and that the facility wants as many as possible.
This assurance is worth remembering and accounting for. The question arises as to whether you can talk about the care of all kid and at the same time entrust the branch management to a individual who had previously had abortions in advanced pregnancies? The care of life cannot be selective.
Many experts believe that the employment of Jagielska may besides mean the emergence of abortion on Brochow and call the decision of the manager to “pronounce war against life”. However, there is no announcement from the infirmary that abortions will be performed there.
The Broch dispute is not a local dispute over 1 position. It's a question of who we truly consider worthy of caring for mothers and their children. is simply a degree and professional experience enough? Does it besides substance if anyone sees an unborn child?
